Sunday Morning Chan Workshop

The Sunday morning Chan workshop offers a blend of meditation and Dharma study. This event is an inclusive environment suitable for beginners and newcomers. While attending in person is recommended for the fullest experience, we understand if you prefer to join virtually or if circumstances prevent your physical presence. Eight-Form Chan Moving Meditation (8:30 – 9 am)

The Sunday morning Chan workshop starts at 8:30 am with Eight-Form Chan Moving Meditation. Eight-Form Chan Moving Meditation is a form of meditation developed by Master Sheng Yen which is made up of a series of physical exercises. Learn more. Video link.

Sitting Meditation (9 – 9:45 am)

After Eight-Form Chan Moving Meditation, a brief interlude ensues, followed by a 45-minute session of sitting meditation. For this period of meditation, you are encouraged to use whichever method you are most comfortable with. For those less familiar with meditation practices, guidance will be readily available, fostering a supportive environment for all attendees. Meditation cushions and towels will be provided.

Morning Service (9:45 – 10 am)

Following the sitting meditation session, we transition into morning service. Morning service entails prostrations, chanting sutras, chanting vows, and transferring merit. You can find the sutras, vows, and transfer of merit on pages two through four via this link.

Chan Workshop (10 – 11:30 am)

After the morning service, we convene for Chan workshop which explores a range of Dharma topics. Previous discussions have delved into works by Master Sheng Yen, including “Chan and Enlightenment”, as well as videos featuring his teachings and presentations crafted by our esteemed teachers. The aim of this workshop is to educate practitioners on essential Chan and Buddhist principles. Tailored to accommodate practitioners of all levels, from novice to advanced, we eagerly welcome and encourage contributions from all attendees.
