Worldly and World Transcending Paths: Huaotou Chan Practice.
In this Retreat Venerable Guo Goang will provide an introduction into the Huatou method as it relates to the worldly and world transcending paths of Chan Buddhism. This retreat will be for both, beginners and advanced practitioners.
Fri: 6 PM – 9 PM Retreat, Part I
Sat: 9 AM – 9 PM Retreat, Part II (vegetarian lunch and light dinner will be served.)
Sun: 9 AM – 5 PM Retreat, Part III (vegetarian lunch will be served.)
About the Teacher:
Venerable Guo-Goang became an ordained nun in 1990. In 2005 she received transmission from the late Chan Master Sheng Yen and became one of his Dharma Heirs. From 2006 – 2013 Venerable Guo Goang was the provost of DDM and then embarked on a six-year solitary retreat in Taiwan from 2013 – 2019. Venerable Guo Goang is currently appointed as the Vice-abbot of Dharma Drum Mountain and serves as a senior teacher at the Chan Meditation Center in NYC.

There will be a period of “mindful work practice” during the breaks after lunch. Roles will be assigned at the check in.

Check-in on Fri begins at 5:30 p.m, check-in on Sat and Sun begins at 8:30 a.m.
Shoes are not allowed inside of the Chan Hall (but can remain in the lobby, of course). For your comfort, we recommend loose, comfortable clothing and clean socks. We advise no jewelry (wedding bands are fine) or constricting stockings. You may remove your socks during the meditation sessions; meditations are traditionally done barefoot.
Please be mindful that the retreat is a scent-free event and avoid the use of perfume and/or cologne the day of retreat.

The center is located in a warehouse district. When you turn onto Holbrook Drive from Wheeling Road, our building will be on your right-hand side. Please drive into the parking lot and continue toward the back of the building where you will find plenty of parking.
