– A Right View Perspective on Chan Meditation
Gilbert Gutierrez, is an attorney practicing in Riverside, California. He began his meditation practice about 30 years ago and studied various forms of meditation, but according to him nothing comes close to matching the simplicity and the beauty of Chan (Zen). Gilbert received Dharma transmission in June 2002 from Chan Master Sheng Yen and became a Dharma heir of the Dharma Drum lineage. He is known for his lively and humorous teaching style, and his ability to cater to different levels of students. He now teaches Chan meditation regularly in California (more info) and lectures in many North American cities.

“The Chan Whip Anthology” is a practical guide to cultivate Chan practice based on a collection of classic Chan texts published by Master Zhuhong in 1600, the late Ming dynasty. Gilbert’s lecture will use the Chan Whip as an overall theme to explain core Chan practice for beginning and advanced Chan practitioners.
This class will start with an evening Dharma talk on Friday November 10, followed by two days of guided meditation practice on Saturday and Sunday. This is an opportunity to get personal instructions and practice it in a retreat. Both new and experienced practitioners will benefit.
